JOEY FLYNN: Nursing home abuse and neglect cases are unique in a number of ways. First, we're dealing with a vulnerable population, older folks that often cannot help themselves. Second, under Arizona law, there are a number of remedies that are available to these victims that may not be available in other types of claims. If a family member suspects that their loved one is being abused or neglected by a nursing home, the first concern is for the victim's safety. Oftentimes, that means that loved one should be moved to a new facility. Secondly, a family member should always report any instance of abuse or neglect to Arizona's Department of Health Services. In nursing home abuse and neglect cases, we probably have more experience than just about anybody else in Tucson.
